Arizona hemp farmers get green light to plant in June

Hemp farmers in Arizona can now begin planting two months earlier than originally planned, thanks to a bill signed into law by Gov. Doug Ducey.

State Sen. Sonny Borrelli of Lake Havasu City sponsored the bill, which could permit farmers to plant as early as June rather than waiting for August, as set by another bill passed in 2018, according to Today’s News Herald.

Arizona became the 39th state to legalize hemp in May 2018 when Ducey signed a bill authorizing the cultivation of industrial hemp for experimental purposes.

Hemp became federally legal after the passage of the historic Farm Bill in December 2018.
